Latest news

Over the last two months, a process of moving selected content from the former council library websites to a central Auckland Libraries website has been underway.

When the work is completed early in 2013, visitors to former council library websites such as this one will be automatically redirected to the new Auckland Libraries website. This will mean there is one online destination for all information and services relating to libraries.

Some new features have been introduced to enhance and improve the revised Auckland Libraries website. These include:

What you need to do

  • Update any bookmarks you made to the former council library websites to the new Auckland Libraries website.

We appreciate your patience during these changes, which we are confident will deliver positive results.

Following the establishment of Auckland Council in 2010 the Auckland Libraries website was built to sit alongside the former council library websites: Rodney, Waitakere, Manukau, Auckland City, North Shore, Franklin and Papakura.

Between now and the end of the year, the content of those websites will be moved to the Auckland Libraries website. From January 2013, visitors to the former council library websites will be automatically redirected to the Auckland Libraries website.

Following this work, all our online information and services, from the catalogue to information about what's happening at the libraries, will be accessible from Auckland Libraries website.

You can also look forward to some enhancements to the website, including:

  • new spaces for children and teens
  • reading recommendations blog
  • events calendar
  • heritage section
  • Māori section

What should you do?

As content is moved your bookmarks will no longer work. We recommend you update these to bookmark this website.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for, contact us and we can help you.

We are confident from your feedback that the move of all content to a single website will make your online experience at Auckland Libraries simpler and better. We appreciate your patience as we make these changes.

Some Auckland Libraries fees will be inflation adjusted by 3.3 per cent from 1 August 2012.

The changes follow a review of all council fees and charges as part of the draft Long-term Plan (2012-2022).

Most other council non-regulatory charges and fees are also changing.

This increase applies to all charges which currently amount to $2 or more. Charges currently under $2, such as our overdue charges, will not change.

Changes to the following fees and charges will apply from 1 August 2012:

No more fines! Make the most of the biggest public library collection in Australasia without chalking up overdue fines.

From 1 November, you will have access to approximately 3.5 million items from 55 libraries stretching from Wellsford to Waiuku – managing up to 35 items on your card can be a breeze with the help of our reminder notice email service.

How reminder notices work

The notices:

  • Are sent to you via email
  • Are sent three days before the library items are due back
  • Provide you with options to either renew or return items
  • Aim to help you manage your borrowing and hopefully eliminate or reduce overdue fines.

If you're not subscribed to this free service, please update your email address right away and automatically receive reminder notices.

You can do this by logging into your My Info account and choosing ‘Modify personal information'.

Come 1 November, not only will you have access to a massive combined collection, we’re also offering free requests.

This means from 1 November you can reserve, for free, that book or magazine or DVD you’ve been hankering to read or watch. Charges apply on rental collections when you borrow, e.g. $2 for a DVD for a week.

To see Auckland Libraries' full list of new library fees, overdue charges and loan periods, visit the borrowing information page.

Use our secure online payment facility to pay library charges via your credit card. Go to 'My Info', if you have any outstanding charges you can pay online by clicking the 'Pay fines and charges' button.
